Movie and a Book with Sybil Rosen

Sybil Rosen, Roanoke native and author of "Living in the Woods In a Tree" will discuss the book as part of a showing of the movie adaptation "Blaze" Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7 pm at the Grandin Theatre. The Ethan Hawke film depicts Rosen's time living with folk artist Blaze Foley in the early 1970s.

Rosen, a 1968 Patrick Henry High School graduate, spent several years with Foley during the time he was known at Deputy Dog. The story focuses their time living in a tree house near the Chattahoochee River in rural Georgia. In the film, Rosen plays her mother, Jeannette, in a scene opposite Alia Shawkat, who portrays Rosen.

Rosen a graduate of UNC-Greensboro, cowrote the screen play with Hawke. In a new forward to the book, Hawke writes  "Sybil wasn't just a cowriter. She was the light of inspiration. Sybil's presence on set ... was Blaze's prensence."  Read more.

A signing will be held after the film. Admission to the film  is $9.75 and can be purchased in advance. The book is available in the store or online in advance and at the Grandin during the event.
