Local author -- and Books & Beans regular-- Angie Smibert will discuss her middle grade/young adult novel Bone's Gift at our April 3 at 6:30 pm at Little Green Hive, 1402 Grandin Rd SW, Roanoke. Bone's Gift  is the first in the Ghost of Ordinary Objects trilogy series about an Appalachian girl coming to terms with her supernatural gift at the start of World War II.

Kirkus Reviews called Bone's Gift "an intriguing blend of history and magic." The story continues Lingering Echos, when Bone must use her wits and her gift not only to uncover the truth but to make sure her best friend Will isn’t sucked away by long-forgotten memories. The trilogy concludes with The Truce, when Bone unearths family secrets to find her favorite, missing uncle.

Smibert also is the author of the  Memento Nora series and  numerous nonfiction books for children, and many short stories for both adults and teens. She grew up in Blacksburg, where her mother's family once worked in the long-closed coal mines along the New River, the setting for the Ordinary Objects series. She also teaches writing at Southern New Hampshire University.
