Beth Macy-Dopesick Paperback Release
Local author Beth Macy will discuss the impact of her bestselling book Dopesick Thursday, August 8 at 7 pm, presented by Book No Further at Community High School 302 Campbell Ave SE, Roanoke. The book releases in paperback on August 6.
Dopesick debuted last summer on the New York Times Bestseller List and gained national attention for its discussion of the opioid epidemic in rural and suburban America. The book brought national attention to the issue and ignited efforts to address addiction. Tom Hanks called Dopesick "a deep -- and deeply needed -- look into the troubled soul of American."
Macy, an award wining journalist worked for The Roanoke Times and has published two other books: Truevine told the story of George and Willie Muse, two albino African Americans who, in the early 20th Century, were taken and placed in a circus as sideshow freaks. Their mother spent more than a decade searching for them. In Factory Man, Macy tells the story of John Bassett who sued Chinese manufacturers for dumping furniture in U.S. markets.
