Author Meet & Greet with James Dill: Malone Ridge

Meet author James Dill Saturday, April 20 from 11 am to 1 pm at Book No Further.  Dill's most recent novel Malone Ridge tells the coming-of-age story of a track star in Nitro, W. Va. who's dreams of college are derailed by the every-day struggles of life in contemporary Appalachia. The Southern Literary Review compares Malone Ridge to the Pulitzer Prize-winning Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.

"Beyond the negative stereotypes so often found these days in contemporary Appalachia novels (think Winter’s Bone and Hillbilly Legacy), Malone Ridge also finds much goodness in the region and the people. The author describes the physical beauty of the area in lush details which convey its appeal. He finds people in the small community to be more often good than not, and time after time, the people in the novel rise above their own limits to do the right thing."

Dill is an executive fundraiser at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and the author of two other novels, Under Lee's Shadow and Racing Shadows.A former Roanoke resident, he has a long career in banking and financial services and lives now in Richmond.
